Cranial Osteopathy
A calming, hands-on approach suitable for people of all ages — from newborns to adults — to support recovery and wellbeing.
What is Cranial Osteopathy?
Cranial osteopathy is a gentle approach to osteopathic treatment that helps the body release tension and restore balance. Although it’s called “cranial,” this approach involves the whole body, not just the head.
A Gentle Approach to Support the Body’s Natural Balance
Using a very light touch, known as palpation, the osteopath listens to the natural rhythms and movements within your body’s tissues, fluids and living anatomy.
These gentle movements reflect the body’s overall health and vitality. When areas of strain or restriction are present, they can affect how comfortably your body functions. Cranial osteopathy aims to ease these patterns, supporting your body’s natural ability to heal and find equilibrium.
Many people find cranial osteopathy deeply relaxing. It can be suitable for people of all ages — from newborn babies and children to adults and the elderly. Treatments are always adapted to meet the individual needs of each patient.
Training in Cranial Osteopathy
All osteopaths complete extensive training over four to five years, covering anatomy, physiology, pathology, and hands-on clinical experience. Those who choose to specialise in cranial osteopathy go on to complete additional postgraduate training through recognised institutions, such as the Sutherland Cranial College of Osteopathy (SCCO).
Further information about cranial osteopathy can be found here on the SCCO website.
